Intergenerational Dialogue

intergenerational Intergenerational Dialogue

Traditionalists born 1925 to 1942 …. Baby Boomers born 1943 to 1962

Gen X born 1963 to 1978 …. Gen Y/Millennials born 1979 to 1998

In order to maximize each person’s contribution to the firm, valuing each person’s talents is imperative. Different generations offer different talents and often don’t value the talents of the others. It’s not hard to see why. The world has changed so rapidly in the areas of divorce, technology, global travel, communication, education, politics, and environmental concerns that each generation almost grew up in different worlds. They’ve been influenced differently and so they think differently.

In order for your firm to remain viable and sustainable, it has to utilize the wisdom of the Baby Boomers, and also attract Gen X and Gen Y individuals. It must address improved communication and understanding as well as work/life balance, value alignment workplace technology, performance mentality, coaching and empowering management styles.

We facilitate intergenerational dialogues in various formats: workshops, lunch-and-learns, and issue specific one-on-one conflict resolution. We also coach older partners and principals to adopt coach and collaborate models rather than command and control models they learned from their mentors, so they can interact more effectively with younger staff.
